About Greg Matthews

Greg is a Lead Partner for a Fortune 500 global financial services corporation, where he oversees the relationship and all services provided across Advisory and Tax. With his 25 years of consulting experience, Greg learns from his client and helps bring the best of KPMG to their needs. Greg also heads KPMG’s FS Third Party Risk Management team and helps clients develop and execute third party risk management programs that are automated, compliant with regulations, efficient in operation and that drive effective risk management. Greg likes working with clients on large, complex projects, where he can use his interpersonal and leadership skills to bring different stakeholders together to agree on the way forward and help drive change. Two of Greg’s leadership principles are: Treat others as you’d like to be treated, and the sum of the parts is always greater than the individual. Greg serves on two non-profit boards related to education as he strongly believes in the value of an education to empower an individual and in turn improve society. Greg leads teams of KPMG professionals at some of the largest global financial services firms as they address current and emerging regulatory requirements that affect business strategies and operations that relate to third parties. Greg has led numerous teams focusing on large scale complex regulatory projects, a selection of which are presented below:Assisted Banks to assess their third party oversight programs and processes in light of regulatory findings. Third parties broadly include both affiliate and non-affiliateSupported Second Line functions to establish the oversight of outsourcing activities required by regulators. Engagements focused on developing risk based approaches to monitoring and testing, developing reporting metrics, execution of pilot testing and co-sourcing ongoing oversight activities. Greg has developed risk assessment criteria for client facing and impacting third parties and assessed those as part of the roll out using various accelerators KPMG developed.Aided First Line Functions to implement second line policies over third party management and outsourcing. Engagements focused on developing the target operating model for the management and oversight of third parties within the business unit covering the governance framework and the end-to-end life cycle. Often this has involved technology enablement.Conducted third party assessments on behalf of Banks to determine compliance with various elements of the governing contract or laws and regulations for specific categories of third parties such as Debt Collectors.Assisted banks with the development of their inventories of third parties.Greg has been involved in a number of industry events connected to third partiesLed KPMG’s annual shareforums in connection with third party risk management.Presented at the 2014 Consumer Bankers Association annual conference on Managing Fair & Responsible Banking Risk in Third-Party Relationships.Written a number of publications on Third Party Risk Management including: The New Third‑Party Management Framework: Trust but Verify.
