About Eric Wu

Eric Wu was born and raised in Ottawa, graduated from Waterloo's math faculty, and now lives in the UK building financial crime technology for Revolut! A basic challenge he faces daily is the connection of financial crime concepts with practical reality, including deciding how to use a variety of technology, tools, and processes. Parts of this are extremely difficult: (1) making the right decisions in accordance with risk, and (2) building processes that allow the business to grow and even help accelerate. His team focuses on this “fincrime-hard” space - a set of problems that, if solved, will provide significant value in advancing the industry and reaching best practice in regulation and operations. At Waterloo, he worked his way through the actuarial science and statistics program, and, in his final year, developed an interest in graph theory and optimization problems. He graduated with a double major in Math Optimization and Actuarial Science, and a joint in Statistics. During his time at Waterloo, he is proud to have served as the Co-President of the UW Finance Association, and to have played a critical role in the sponsorship of the JDCC Waterloo 2015. Eric W. has extensive experience in the financial and consulting industry, with roles in companies such as Revolut, Oliver Wyman, Towers Watson, CIGNA, Manulife Financial, and Statistics Canada. Eric holds a Bachelor of Honours Mathematics with a double major in Math Optimization & Actuarial Science, and a joint major in Statistics from the University of Waterloo.
