INSHUR Launches On-Demand Third Party Liability Insurance for Uber Eats Couriers in the Netherlands

INSHUR, the global insurance provider to the on-demand economy, has announced the launch of an on-demand insurance product tailored for Uber Eats 2-wheel couriers in the Netherlands. This new offering addresses additional coverage, not typically included in traditional insurance policies, ensuring vital protection for those delivering food through the Uber Eats platform.

Since 2020, INSHUR has partnered with Uber to deliver tailor-made insurance policies to Uber drivers in the Netherlands. The newly introduced policy focuses on third-party liability coverage, protecting couriers who deliver  against third party claims for material damage or bodily injury caused while working via the Uber Eats platform. This type of coverage is often not included in standard personal auto insurance policies, leaving couriers vulnerable to potential risks and liabilities inherent to the delivery profession.

INSHUR’s on-demand model offers flexibility, allowing coverage that aligns with Uber Eats scooter and moped drivers’ working hours and delivery schedules. This approach ensures that they are protected during active delivery times without the burden of unnecessary costs during inactive periods.

The grocery delivery market in the Netherlands is anticipated to experience a revenue growth of 11.5% in 2026 and meal delivery is expected to reach 11m users by 2029 – equivalent to 62% of the country’s current population of 17.88m – highlighting the growing popularity and demand for such delivery services in the region. As demand grows, supporting the safety and security of Dutch delivery drivers remains an ongoing priority for INSHUR and Uber Eats.

“We understand the unique challenges faced by on-demand economy participants,” said David Daiches, COO and Co-Founder of INSHUR. “Traditional insurance products often fall short when it comes to covering the specific needs required for the market. This product offers peace of mind and financial security to those powering the growing delivery sector in the Netherlands.”

Echoing this sentiment, Hendrik Todte, Head of Insurance EMEA at Uber, added, “At Uber, we are committed to supporting the couriers who keep our platform moving. This partnership with INSHUR provides a flexible insurance solution that adapts to their needs, ensuring they can work with confidence and security.”

As the on-demand economy continues to expand and evolve, collaborations like this set a precedent for how platforms can proactively address the unique challenges faced by their participants. This launch and the continued partnership between INSHUR and Uber signifies a progressive step towards enhancing the safety and security of riders and drivers supporting this economy.
